Two new compact coaxial cabinets

L-Acoustics has recently widened the range of loudspeakers with two new compact models, the 8XT and 12XT, designed for either small or large-scale applications and running with all mounting specs to the max, as if they'd be rather some mounting and now sound reference pieces of gear.

The 8XT is the most compact of the coaxial-driver gama and will blast your sound frequencies between 65Hz and 20kHZ. It sports a 1.5" diaphragm compression driver coaxially mounted in the middle of an (obviously) 8" bass driver, all encased in a tuned bass reflex box. The bigger brother, the 12XT has a 3" similar driver in the middle of the larger, 12" bass driver which delivers down to 55Hz. L-Acoustics specs that both boxes' bass can actually go even lower by mounting a SB118 subfoower so the lows reach a pants-blowing 32Hz level.

The crossovers in both loudpeakers are passive and sport proprietary technology which will in-phase all sound coming out of the XT. The coaxial placement of the sound sources ensures a 100-degree directivity spread response and this makes the new XT speakers suitable for more than one single type of operation. According to the manufacturer, depending on the selection made in the L-Acoustics LA4 controller, both 8XT and 12XT loudspeakers can be used as Front speakers (FOH), Fill or Floor Monitors, thus broadly expanding the possibilities for the users.

Since many of the features come in for both new speakers, I'll add that the 8XT and the 12XT come with pre-drilled Omnimount-compatible hole-arrays and they both sport pole mount sockets and metal handles.

The 8XT and the 12 XT will be available in May 2007.
