Fact No.1: coal seam gas (CSG) mining poses significant threats for local communities, as water, air and soils quality are all affected. Fact No. 2: for most of the times at least, the purpose of art is to mimic reality and get us to reflect on various facts of life.

Therefore, why should we be surprised that one theater director, Ollie Heathwood, decided to take mining activities, together with the damaging effects they have on the environment, and incorporate them into her latest play?

Not very subtly entitled “CSG – The Musical,” this theater project is meant to inform the audience about the dangers of coal seam gas mining and to trigger some sort of reaction on the part of the authorities.

Interestingly enough, regular folks were cast among professional actors, most likely to make the play seem even more realistic.
