Director shoots down rumors of too much Volturi skin exposed

Over the weekend, British actor and newcomer to “Twilight” Jamie Campbell-Bower told the media that his character, along with other Volturi vampires, would appear in the film in very little clothes. With a PG-13 rating and a fanbase made mostly of teenagers, it’s no surprise the statement made headlines around the world. As it happens, it did so for the wrong reasons, director Chris Weitz says in a press statement released to TwilightSource.

Campbell-Bower seemed dead serious when he said that the Volturi trio, including Caius, his character, would appear in a scene in “New Moon” in very little clothes. The scene in question was, as per the actor, a confrontation scene between Dr. Carlisle Cullen and the three vampires, with them sitting in some sort of “a Roman bath kind of thing.” Those looking forward to said scene might as well give up all hope, as director Chris Weitz says it was all a joke that Campbell-Bower made to get people on their toes – as if anticipation for the movie was not sky-high already.

“Dear all, I would like to put everyone’s mind at rest.” Weitz says in his message to the fans, many of whom got pretty anxious about Jamie’s statement, to put it mildly. “Jamie (Campbell-Bower) has what you might call a dry sense of humor and almost managed to convince me – which is why he’s such a good actor. Anyway, be assured that, even though we do want the look of the Volturi to be a bit of a surprise, they are always – as in the book! – fully clothed. Best, Chris Weitz.” the director further explains.

It could very well be that Jamie Campbell-Bower was just playing on the hype around the many scenes in which Taylor Lautner would be seen without a shirt or in a simple wifebeater, muscular arms on full display – as he’s about to turn into a wolf, as fans must already know from the first official trailer. Still, not few publications actually took his words for granted and, as expected, word of the scene in question spread like wild fire on the Internet.

Speaking of what it meant for him to be made a part of “The Twilight Saga” a while ago, the British actor, who has already had a couple of successful appearances in several big productions, including “Sweeny Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” and “RocknRolla,” voiced his happiness at finally being noted for his hard work. “Shooting has already started, and I’m going over in June. I hadn’t read the books before. But it’s a great thing to be a part of, and it did very well last year. I doubt I’ll get the same sort of adulation as Robert [Pattinson] – but it’s always nice when people recognize you for your work.” the actor was telling the media at the end of March.
