Clonezilla Live 2.2.1-25, a Linux distribution based on DRBL, Partclone, and udpcast that allows users to do bare metal backup and recovery, is now available for download and testing.

Clonezilla Live 2.2.1-25 is now the latest stable version for this distribution and comes with a huge number of changes and fixes.

Unlike previous versions of Clonezilla, which have been modest to say the least, the current release is one of the biggest updates we had in quite a while.

“The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2014/Jan/13),” reads the announcement.

Highlights of Clonezilla Live 2.2.1-25:

• The Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.12.6-2; • Partclone has been updated to version 0.2.69.drbl. This means that the bugs about reiser4 and btrfs have been fixed; • Syslinux has been updated to verison 6.03-pre1 and should fix a boot issue on some BIOS machines, for example Acer Aspire One; • Package drbl has been updated to version 2.7.18-drbl1 and clonezilla has been updated to version 3.9.10-drbl1; • The output of blkid will now be saved in the image dir as blkid.list; • A couple of new packages, bcache-tools and chntpw, have been added; • A mechanism to convert image compression format has been added. It can be used to convert the gz compression to xz compression, for example; • The code for restoring MBRs has been extracted as a single program, ocs-restore-mbr, allowing it to be used more easily; • A bug where live-config failed to show eject info, when rebooting or halting in upstart environments, has been fixed; • When a recovery ISO/zip file is created, Clonezilla now honors the original splash mechanism.
