Over the weekend, friends and family gathered to celebrate Whitney Houston, the woman and the artist. Her mentor, Clive Davis, chose to speak about Whitney, the singer.

His beautiful speech is above, in its entirety.

Davis, Whitney's “industry father,” was also a good friend. Yet he chose to speak about her love of music and her incredible talent at the wake, which streamed online.

“You wait for a voice like that for a lifetime. You wait for a face like that, a smile like that, a presence like that for a lifetime. And when one person embodies it all, well it takes your breath away,” Davis said.

She lived music through every pore of her body – but their relationship wasn't just business, they were also excellent friends.

“Yes she spoke to Oprah about her searing battles but when I needed her she was there. She was there for me. An entirely loyal friend,” the music executive said.

“Bobbi Kristina – she loved you so very much. She defined not only pure talent but true heart and soul. Always be proud of your mother. She will forever be looking after you and never let go of your hand,” David also said.

In the same speech, Clive Davis revealed that Whitney was preparing for a comeback in August: she'd started working out, cutting down on cigarettes and doing vocal exercises.
