Earlier this year, insiders were speaking of a Whitney Houston comeback as soon as March 2009, when a new album from the diva would drop. Music mogul and godfather figure for Whitney, Clive Davis, has just confirmed to MTV News that she will be performing at the Annual Pre-Grammy party, as well as that she’ll be coming out with a new album sooner than fans believed.

Clive Davis’ Annual Pre-Grammy Party is one of the most exclusive celebrity events. In previous years, it was here that the music mogul introduced his latest discoveries, Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis. This year, MTV reports, Davis will be reintroducing Whitney Houston, an artist that he’s credited for discovering in the first place. Moreover, MTV got to sit down with Davis and, it seems, a new Whitney material is almost completed and ready to reach fans.

“The same way her debut album took a while to put together, you just don’t do it by going into a computer. You wait for the material to justify a new album. Pretty much, it’s come in.” Davis tells MTV. “You wait for the great songs to be written. The great hits Whitney has given to the public for so many years – you keep encouraging and setting the bar. R. Kelly and Whitney just went into the studio with a great song called ‘I Look to You.’” he further adds.

While no specific date for the new album has yet been announced, Davis also tells MTV that, as early as next week, Whitney will be going into the studio to record a love ballad called “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength” with the help of hitmaker David Foster. All in all, Davis explains, Whitney’s new album is coming along just nicely, which can only mean that an official release date should be made public any day now.

At the beginning of January, the New York Post claimed to have it from very reliable sources that 2009 would mark Whitney’s comeback. “Ms. Houston is set to perform brand new tracks completely live from her upcoming album. Whitney’s mentor, Clive Davis, also announced the new album will be due in March.” the Post wrote at the time.
