Word on the street is that scientists are rather boring, and totally not worth inviting to a rager. The part about the rager might be true, but the first one definitely isn't. Tree Hugger tells us that, not long ago, 13 climate change researchers all agreed to turn pin-up models for a while, and pose for a 2014 calendar.

The calendar, dubbed “Climate Models,” is intended to make science more appealing to ordinary folks, and show people just how complex the business of understanding and predicting climate change is.

Each of the scientists who took part in this project was photographed in a setting representing their work.

“Scientists use climate models – computer programs that simulate the interactions among the atmosphere, oceans, land surface and ice – to learn what will happen to climate in the future. The Climate Models calendar uses scientists as models to teach climate science,” explain the people behind this project, Francesco Fondella and Rebecca Fowler.

The first is a communications officer with the International Research for Climate and Society, the second is a science writer now working with the Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.

Thanks to funding provided by The Awesome Foundation in NYC and a Kickstarter campaign, the calendar is now in the making.

Several calendars have already been sent to the people who have supported the initiative on Kickstarter, and others will become available for purchase on the 2014 Climate Models Calendar website this coming December 7.
