Clevo’s venerable X7200 notebook has now gotten a little bit more powerful, since the company has recently announced the introduction of the P270WM based on Intel’s enthusiast-oriented X79 platform using Sandy Bridge-E processors.

Clevo’s desktop hardware-based behemoth has been sporting the Intel X58 chipset and LGA 1366 processors pretty much since their launch, but now it swaps these for Intel’s newer LGA 2011 CPUs.

Customers have the option of choosing between the Core i7-3930K and the Core i7-3960X, while the graphics card of choice is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 580M.

SLI configurations are also supported, while those looking for a more professional GPU can turn their attention towards the Quadro 5010M.

The rest of the Clevo P270WM configuration has remained pretty much unchanged, providing support for up to three hard drives or SSDs, a 17.3-inch glossy screen with 1080p resolution and four SO-DIMM slots to populate Sandy Bridge-E's quad channel memory controller.

On the outside, the P270WM has finally received a much needed sprucing up which focused on making the keyboard design more functional (the keyboard is also backlit).

Other features include optional RAID, two USB 3.0 ports, HDMI 1.4a support, and a redesigned express card slot for third-party expansion boards.

All these are packed inside a case that weights no less than 12.13 pounds (about 5.5Kg) according to AnandTech, which is definitely a lot to carry around with you.

AVADirect will be one of the first retailers to sell the Clevo P270WM notebook in North America. Pre-orders can be placed right now, while shipments will begin in March this year.

The base price starts at around $3000.00 (roughly 2,300 EUR) and this will get you an Intel Core i7 3930K CPU, GTX 580M 2GB graphics , 4GB of DDR3 RAM at 1333 MHz, a 750GB 7200 RPM hard disk, and Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.
