Following the recent Verizon 4G announcement, Clearwire's chief commercial officer Mike Sievert made some comments, in which he points out the differences between Verizon's 4G pricing offer and Clearwire's CLEAR WiMAX 4G offering.

Ever since Verizon and T-Mobile have announced their plans of launching 4G services in the United States, the industry has started to debate on the concept of the 4G technology.

Whatever its definition may be, the only things that matter for the end-user is the high speed the technology offers him, the price he has to pay for it, as well as the included usage he gets in return.

In this regard, Sivert said that “We think “next generation” equals three things – Speed, Capacity, and Value. To be next generation, you have to be fast, and we are. But it also means you have to have higher capacity to be able to handle the tons of megabytes of data that we know you all want. There also has to be a breakthrough in cost so that everyone can have a great value.”

It is worth mentioning that Clearwire is a pioneer in 4G technology and the developer of the first 4G network in the US.

Known as 4G WiMAX and branded Clear, the company launched its first 4G WiMAX wireless broadband services in Portland, Oregon, in January 2009.

Clearwire's exec stated that the most common mistake that a consumer usually made was that he only looked at speed when the real differentiator in 4G was capacity.

Unfortunately for Verizon's subscribers, his statement is supported by a price comparison table that lists offers from both Clearwire and Verizon.

The best example is CLEAR's $45/per month plan that offers Unlimited Data at uncapped speeds, while Verizon offers only 10GB for an $80/per month plan, plus $10 for every 1GB overage fee.
