MacPaw has updated its flagship Mac OS X utility app, CleanMyMac, a program that enables users to perform maintenance on their Macs thanks to features like the full application uninstallation, the ability to slim down universal binaries, the widgets uninstaller and the capability of erasing garbage left from previously removed applications and widgets.

CleanMyMac is an all-in-one utility that helps you keep your Mac clean and healthy. Using the app, you can delete useless files that pile up over time and waste valuable disk space, as well as slow down your system.

Unlike simpler “cleaning” solutions, CleanMyMac combines features such as the ability to slim down universal binaries, delete unneeded languages, logs and caches, quick erase, application uninstallation, and the capability of fully erasing the trash left from buried applications. The main benefit of using CleanMyMac is that your Mac will work faster and smoother after running the tool.

Changes in version 1.4.0 include:

1) added German, French and Italian localizations; 2) cleanMyMac will now gracefully quit applications before removing them; 3) added Shared ignore list – the MacPaw team will be able to analyze broken apps to fix them in the future; 4) fixed crash while analyzing some empty packages; 5) memory consumption improved.

Readers can download the trial version of CleanMyMac right now and remove 200Mb of junk. While the software is optimized for Leopard, CleanMyMac supports Tiger as well. MacPaw doesn't mention this on the company's website because it also sells the app bundled with MacHider, an app intended to keep your confidential information from being seen by third parties or other unwanted eyes.

The company has also announced CleanMyMac 2, a major update to the maintenance app, scheduled to arrive very soon. Existing users will be able to apply the update for free, while its open architecture will allow developers to write custom plugins.
