Liam Neeson, Kate Upton, and more star in the commercials

Superbowl XLIX brought forth a quality football game, but as always, it also included a variety of impressive commercials that promoted many products and services, from cars to corporations and, as of at least this year, free-to-play mobile games like Clash of Clans or Game of War with celebrities like Liam Neeson or Kate Upton.

Mobile free-to-play games are huge nowadays, despite the fact that many gamers still consider those who play on smartphones or tablets as casual users for not jumping to PC or consoles.

Free-to-play games got Superbowl commercials

Still, as further testimony of the success of such titles, as well as their mainstream appeal, not one but three such experiences had dedicated commercials during the Superbowl XLIX event, via NBC.

First up, Clash of Clans goes all in with star power, bringing in Hollywood actor Liam Neeson, who channels his best Taken impersonation while exacting revenge on someone who attacked his village in the mobile game.

Plenty of celebrities were used in the ads

Secondly, Game of War brings forth a brand new ad starring the lovely Kate Upton, sowing destruction and emphasizing that attacks between players are just a regular part of the game. Plenty of different commercials that promoted the game through the attractive model have already appeared in recent months, and this new one certainly follows the same strategy.

The smallest effort comes from Heroes Charge, which brings a not-so-impressive CGI ad that depicts a battle between some of their characters. Unfortunately, it also shows that the game copies a few heroes from Dota 2, like Lina or Tiny, and doesn't even attempt to show what the in-game action looks like.
