2K Sports has announced that it will be giving gamers a chance to actually go up against the best basketball players in the country through the NBA 2K10 All-Star Challenge Presented by Nike Basketball, which is set to take place in January and February 2010.

Those who are interested in taking part in it will need to own an Xbox 360 home gaming console from Microsoft and will have to own a copy of the newest installment in the NBA series from 2K Sports.

The initial stages of the competition will be hosted online, through the Xbox Live service, and two finalists will be taken to Dallas, in Texas, where they will play off the final game during the NBA All-Star Weekend, February 12-14, 2010.

The player who wins the NBA 2K10 All-Star Challenge Presented by Nike Basketball will get a prize worth 100,000 dollars and a chance to create a part of the Zoom Kobe V basketball show, which will then be worn by the star player himself in an actual Los Angeles Lakers game. The model will also make an appearance in NBA 2K11 next year. The full rules related to the competition are available on the official site for all those who wish to sign up.

After a player joins up for NBA 2K10 All-Star Challenge, which they can do until January 16, all the games they play online are counted and weighted to create a qualification rating. There will be leaderboards to track the rankings of all players and the best 60 of them will get into the playoffs that are set to take place before the end of January 2010.

2K Sports is probably hoping that more players will be interested in picking up NBA 2K10 with the competition in mind. Considering that the game is also released for the Nintendo Wii, the PC, the PlayStation 3 and the PSP, it is quite a shame that the competition is only available on the Xbox 360.
