The development team at Firaxis might be focused on its recently launched Civilization: Beyond Earth, but the company is still offering a lot of support for the previous title in the series and is currently working on a multiplayer-focused update which will be offered via Steam as soon as its content is complete.

The official announcement states, “ After the latest balance patch for Civ V, we received a number of reports on instability in multiplayer matches. We have a hotfix in progress that should address recent issues with connectivity. This fix will only affect the multiplayer components of the game, and will not change any gameplay values or single player settings. We hope that this will improve the stability of multiplayer matches.”

Gamers are advised to make sure that they have automatic updates enabled for Civilization V on their computers, which can be done by navigating to the title in the Steam library, using right click to access the Properties Tab in order to then navigate to Updates and choose the “Always keep this game up to date” option from the menu that appears there.

Firaxis has not yet offered a clear list of all the changes that will be implemented for its turn-based strategy game and is not saying if other content, like the popular mods created for the title, will need to be updated after the changes are deployed.

Civ V might get a new expansion

Civilization V was first introduced in 2010 and made some big changes to the traditional formula of the series, with only one military unit able to occupy one tile at one time, and with hexes used instead of squares for the map.

The new gameplay concepts were initially criticized by members of the community, but the game continued to sell well and attract new gamers.

Since then, Firaxis has introduced two major expansion packs, called Gods & Kings and Brave New World, which added new civilizations to choose from, new systems for the game, and an improved Artificial Intelligence, although this aspect of the game remains relatively weak.

The fact that Firaxis continues to offer support for Civilization V might be a sign that the company is aiming to deliver a third expansion at some point in the future.

At the moment, most resources are linked to Beyond Earth, which takes the series away from Earth and is set to be updated in the coming weeks and might get an expansion of its own in 2015.
