The developers at Firaxis and the publisher 2K Games have announced that they are preparing two new downloadable content packs for the turn-based strategy game Civilization V to be released for the PC via digital distribution on March 3.

The two packs are linked, with one introducing the Polynesia faction and the other adding a new scenario, called Paradise, where the player can take the role of “one of the four great Polynesian kingdoms as they strive to become the dominant culture in Polynesia.”

New units, which will be exclusive to the Polynesian faction, include the Moai and the Maori Warriors, which are pictured in the screenshot.

The two DLC packs will be accompanied by a free map pack for Civilization V which will include three new maps: Skirmish, Ring and Ancient Lake.

These can be downloaded using Steam when the player first launches the game after March 3.

The developers at Firaxis have not said if they are planning to launch more civilizations for the game and new scenario packs in the future.

At the same time, the team working on Civilization V seems determined to deliver more patches for the turn-based strategy game in order to make sure that it delivers the experience that gamers are seeking from it.

Civilization V was launched in late 2010 and introduced some important changes to the series, with hexagons taking the place of squares on the map and with just one military unit able to occupy one terrain tile at any time.

This was supposed to make the game more tactical when it came to the battles while allowing the same freedom to use diplomacy and technology to get ahead of other factions.

Unfortunately, the Artificial Intelligence of the game did not manage to cope with the changes and is struggling to challenge human players.
