There are also issues with full screen on some monitors

The launch of Civilization: Beyond Earth has largely gone smoothly and the new turn-based strategy experience seems to be working fine on the systems of most of the gamers who have bought it, but the teams at Firaxis and 2K Games are currently actively working on two issues that are affecting a small number of fans.

The biggest problem is linked to an error message which pops up when the game is launched and tells the gamer “SHgetknownfolderpath failed.”

The official support site states, “It seems that the cause for this problem is that the user's My Documents folder isn't in the default location. We are currently looking into this, but the good news is that you can restore your My Documents to the default location as a temporary workaround.”

The two companies aim to create a simple solution which might be part of the first full patch for Civilization: Beyond Earth.

At the same time, some players are reporting that the video game is not running in any full screen resolution on some monitors.

Apparently, the problem is related to the fact that devices that have a refresh rate of 144 hz cannot convince the engine to go past 1280 x 720 in full screen, with the only solution at the moment being to choose Window Mode and then run in the desired resolution.

Firaxis and 2K Games are asking all gamers who are having troubles with their copy of Civilization: Beyond Earth to reach out to the support team via the forums or social media in order to have them solved as soon as possible.

Civilization: Beyond Earth introduces a lot of new gameplay mechanics

Civilization: Beyond Earth is a new entry in the veteran franchise that takes gamers away from Earth and challenges them to control a faction that’s aiming to colonize a rather hostile alien world.

Core mechanics like one military unit per hex and zones of control are well implemented, but Firaxis has also changed some elements, with the technology layout now consisting of a web and with a new orbital layer allowing gamers to execute a new range of strategies.

Civilization: Beyond Earth also allows players to choose from three affinities in order to customize how their faction evolves and there are five victory conditions to choose from.

Firaxis has said that it plans to support the game in the long term with patches and we will probably see a big expansion pack coming at some point in 2015.
