Gamers also get a whole range of bug fixes

The development team at Colossal Order and publisher Paradox Interactive are announcing that they have deployed the first major update for Cities: Skylines, labeled 1.1.0, which is designed to introduce a number of new features to the city builder, most of them linked to real world European cities.

All the new content is free for all those who have the game, but the two companies do warn gamers to make sure that they disable mods initially in order to run the updated title.

Most modifications will probably need to be updated by their creators before they are entirely compatible with Cities: Skylines version 1.1.0.

Three new Europa-themed maps are added to the title, with wall-to-wall style building, and tunnels enabled for use.

The Asset Editor has been updated with an option for custom vehicles, and a range of smaller tweaks have also been made, which can be seen by clicking on the button at the end of the article.

Jakob Munthe, the brand manager in charge of Cities: Skylines, states, "Going forward, we will focus on giving away the main features for free and improving the modding tools, while also selling major expansions around new mechanics. But we will also continue to offer free content such as new buildings and road types."

In the long term, the title will continue to get support just like Europa Universalis IV and Crusader Kings II have been getting for the past few years.

Cities: Skylines offers a classic experience for the city builder genre

Colossal Order has been saying that its most recent title is designed to appeal to lovers of the genre who have not been satisfied with the quality of the most recent offerings in the field.

SimCity has not managed to deliver a good reboot, and Electronic Arts has earned few fans by making the game always online.

The game was received very well and managed to quickly sell copies, and the community will be very satisfied to see that the first big content drop is being delivered for free.

European style cities are an interesting addition, although the changes they introduce are mostly cosmetic.

It will be interesting to see which aspects of Cities: Skylines they will seek to improve when the inevitable first expansion is being announced.
