Cisco has announced the new WebEx 2.0 iPad app, which allows users to attend WebEx meetings on their Apple tablet, wherever they are. Participants can enjoy the full meeting experience with simultaneous data and audio, as well as new features like high-quality streaming video that takes mobile web conferencing to new heights.

“Way Cool. There is no other way I can describe our new WebEx for the iPad app version 2.0 that is available as of today from the Apple App Store,” Cisco’s David Knight blogs.

“It brings the compelling high-quality, multi-stream video conferencing features to the iPad app we announced last month– and the experience rocks,” according to the Chief Technology Officer or Cisco’s Collaboration Software Group.

Knight explains that users can instantly see the video of all meeting participants, zoom into full screen video of just the active speaker, as well as toggle seamlessly between video and the content being shared, with a swipe of a finger or a quick tap.

A video of the app in action can be viewed here.

A number of highly requested host capabilities have also been implemented in WebEx for iPad version 2.0.

These include the ability to schedule, start, or invite others to a meeting, delete a meeting, or the ability to pass presenter capabilities to another participant.

“It is quite simply the best experience we have delivered in my eight years here at Cisco WebEx,” Knight adds.

According to the official release notes for WebEx for iPad 2.0, users get one way, multipoint WebEx High Quality Video (converged web, audio and high quality video) with:

• Up to 4 simultaneous videos in a video carousel; scroll to see more • Video switching based on Active Speaker technology • Full Screen Video Mode • Floating Video • Automatic video quality adjustment based on the network bandwidth restrictions for each participant (different users can receive different resolutions)

Cisco asks users to note that WebEx Meeting Center release version WBS27.17 or higher is required for mobile video conferencing.

Users must be on a WiFi network, while certain restrictions may apply based on their company’s policies and WebEx implementation, Cisco adds.

Also noteworthy, WiFi proxy support allowing users to join a meeting from behind the firewall.

Supported in 11 languages, the new app is immediately available as a free download using the link below. It requires iOS 3.2 or later. An iPhone version is also available for download.
