One of the minor carriers based in United States, Cincinnati Bell has just announced the availability of its 4G wireless network, as well as the introduction of a new Android smartphone that supports the new HSPA+ data speeds, Huawei Ascend X 4G.

According to the carrier, the 4G network speeds are twice as fast as other national wireless companies and three times faster than its 3G network.

However, Cincinnati Bell's speed claim seems to be based on results of independent field tests conducted in April 2011.

Along with the official announcement of its 4G network, Cincinnati Bell introduced the Huawei Ascend X 4G, a sleek and stylish smartphone that takes advantage of the new high data speeds.

Every day the people of Greater Cincinnati use wireless phones to share news with friends and family and stream music and video. With our new 4G wireless network, they can do all that and more at speeds that are faster than ever,” said Mike Vanderwoude, vice president and general manager of wireless for Cincinnati Bell.

Also known as Huawei Ideos X6 (U9000), the Ascend X 4Gis powered by Google's Android 2.2 (Froyo) operating system and features HSDPA 14.4 Mbps support.

The device comes with a 4.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display with 16 million colors support and 480 x 800 pixels resolution.

Furthermore, it sports a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as a secondary VGA front-facing camera for video calls.

The Ascend X 4G is equipped with a single core Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor clocked at 1-gigahertz and complemented by an Adreno 205 GPU.

In addition, it packs 2 GB of internal memory, 512 MB of RAM and microSD card slot for memory expansion (up to 32GB).

Huawei Ascend X 4G from Cincinnati Bell is available with a limited time, buy-one-get-one-free offer for $99 after mail-in rebate and with a two-year equipment agreement and smartphone data plan.
