Fans of Christina Aguilera waiting to hear her so-called comeback album this March will have to wait a month more until they hear what their idol has prepared for them. The singer’s fourth studio album, believed to come under the name “Bionic,” has just been pushed back to April, meaning it will arrive in stores one month later than expected, as EarSucker can confirm.

“Christina Aguilera’s upcoming fourth studio album, ‘Bionic,’ has been pushed back, according to sources. The album is now set for an April 2010 release. In a statement, RCA Records announced that the album was delayed before it was scheduled to hit stores around the world in March. The record company did not mention the exact date of the album’s release, but said that her first single would be ‘Glam’ and would be released next month,” the aforementioned e-zine writes.

As we were also telling you yesterday, the album seems shrouded in mystery at this point. For starters, the delay makes little sense, especially since Christina started work on it a long while back and rumors seemed to hint that everything was in place and good to go for the release. The possibility that “Bionic” was rejected by the label as not carrying enough of a punch is also highly unlikely, industry insiders speculate, since hype for it has been building slowly for quite some time.

Speaking of hype, a series of videos posted on YouTube by a user who calls himself / herself only “iamamiwhoami” are believed to be actually part of a viral campaign to promote Aguilera’s “Bionic.” A third video ended up online yesterday and, as per MTV and despite the denials coming from the singer’s publicist, it could very well be that the woman shown in it, face in the mud but blonde hair in plain sight, is no one else than Christina herself.

“[O]ne name kept popping up with bizarre regularity: Christina Aguilera. See, Aguilera does have a new album coming soon, an ambitious and reportedly futuristic outing she’s calling ‘Bionic.’ She has been known to adopt an alter-ego or two (remember Xtina?). And the repeated use of fetal imagery in the videos does lend credence to her claims that the birth of her son Max was an inspiration for the record. So, while the clips would represent a rather, uh, ambitious re-imagining of herself, it wasn’t beyond the realm of possibility that she was somehow involved in the campaign,” MTV wrote, as we also reported the other day.
