Christina Aguilera opens up about pain of separation, will not say what caused it

For the first time since announcing she was separated from husband of 5 years Jordan Bratman and then filing for divorce, singer Christina Aguilera is speaking about the separation and trying to get a sense of normalcy in her life.

In the November issue of Redbook magazine, Christina opens up about the split and, while she still wouldn’t say what caused it, she does mention she finds it incredibly hard to live through.

It’s no wonder, though: as she puts it, it’s nearly impossible to adjust to a life that is the exact opposite of what you had so far, and to pick up and continue living as if everything hadn’t been turned upside down.

“It’s not easy, and there have been a lot of tears and sadness. It’s impossible to redefine yourself and your life overnight,” Christina explains.

Luckily, she can count on her family and her trusted friends for comfort and support. Then, she also has son Max, who, right now, is probably the only one that keeps her sane as everything is falling apart.

“Thankfully, I have my mom and a small group of close friends who are there for me 24/7 and whom I can trust and depend on. On days when it feels impossible to even get out of bed, much less function as a mother, their support and encouragement have kept me moving forward,” Christina says.

“Thankfully, I have Max to keep me on a sane path. His needs and happiness are my top priorities, and my biggest concern is to protect him and make him feel safe,” the singer adds.

Max is also the reason why she and Jordan remain very close, because they both want him to grow up knowing he has both parents to rely on, parents who would not sacrifice his best interest because they couldn’t work things out between them.

Speaking of working things out, the question of what caused the separation also pops up in the interview but Christina, always the diplomat, directly refuses to answer it.

“Out of respect for my husband, I prefer to keep the specifics private. Right now, I’m just trying to figure out how to make it through each day,” the singer says when asked about the reason for the divorce.

The Christina Aguilera interview with Redbook is out on newsstands on November 16.
