14 DAY TRIAL // The latest issue of People magazine brings a very candid (the first of the kind) interview with pop star and actress Christina Aguilera. Not only does she talk about what made her marriage to Jordan Bratman crumble, but she also dishes the details on her new lover, Matt Rutler.
In the piece, the diva stresses that she did not cheat on her husband with Matt: she met him on the set of the film “Burlesque” where he was a production assistant and were close friends until after the divorce.
She also explains what went wrong between her and Jordan: they simply drifted apart, with her realizing that the marriage was far too troubled to be rescued. So she pulled the plug on it.
“We were great the first year after [our son] Max was born. Jordan was amazing. He was the first to change Max’s diaper. Then things turned. I was nurturing Max and felt independent in the relationship,” says the star.
“When I finished filming [‘Burlesque’], I didn’t feel right in my own shoes [at home]. I had a lot of things stirring inside of me that I felt were being suppressed. We tried to work on the marriage and figure out a common ground, but the problems were obvious,” Christina explains.
She and Matt had become really close friends on the set of the film – but Christina insists they didn’t get romantically involved until after she filed the divorce papers, roughly 6 weeks ago.
Still, she speaks in very wonderful terms of it, sounding very much like in love, while stressing she’s not looking for something serious right now.
“Matthew is a special person. We had a really strong friendship on the movie. He’s the kind of person you could spend hours on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it’s daylight,” Aguilera says.
“Once I filed for divorce, we started dating. I’m not trying to jump into anything. I just left a five-year marriage. I’m taking it slow and trying to be happy. There’s a love there, yes. I’m having fun, I’m dating and it’s something I haven’t had in a really long time,” she adds.
