Singer returns to her former style in second video

Christina Aguilera’s latest studio album, “Bionic,” was labeled a flop by the mainstream media for failing to rise to the standards she set herself with her previous releases. Fans would beg to differ, of course: “Bionic” is a winner, they say. Judging by the video for the second official single off the album, it certainly seems like Christina is returning to her stunning diva roots, Billboard writes.

With the first single off “Bionic,” “Not Myself Tonight,” Aguilera went for a video that played more on her sensuality than anything else, which was precisely what the song was about as well. The song “You Lost Me” heads into a different direction and talks about heartbreak, loss and disappointment, therefore it was only natural that it be different from the other one. Christina singers her eyes out in the video – but she does it in such a stylish, stunning fashion that she almost comes across as an angel.

“Christina Aguilera cries her eyes out, and looks great doing it, in the video for her new piano-driven ballad, ‘You Lost Me,’ which premiered today on Vevo. Both the song and its video are the polar opposite of Aguilera’s first ‘Bionic’ single, ‘Not Myself Tonight,’ representing a kind of return to form for the gifted singer. ‘You Lost Me’ begins with an extreme close-up of a gun barrel while Aguilera sings, ‘I am done, Smoking gun/ We’ve lost it all, the love is gone’,” Billboard writes in a review.

“The newly strawberry-blonde star wanders through a deserted bedroom and lays down in the dirt, but like a vintage Hollywood vixen, she always remains impeccably glamorous – even while mascara streams down her cheeks. ‘I feel like our world’s been infected,’ Aguilera belts at the end, ‘and somehow you left me neglected.’ The singer could easily be singing about the harsh response to ‘Bionic,’ which debuted at a disappointing No. 3 on the Billboard 200 back in June and had critics alleging that the singer was imitating Lady Gaga. Hopefully for Aguilera, ‘You Lost Me’ will cast those doubts aside and remind everyone of what she does best,” the same review further says.

Towards the end of the Anthony Mandler-directed video, after a struggle with the man who dared break her heart (interesting how his face is never shown in the frame), Christina is reborn, stronger and more beautiful than ever. Below is the official video. Enjoy.
