Christina Aguilera’s latest release, the single and official music video for “Not Myself Tonight,” continues to polarize audiences and critics alike. The singer remains unfazed by the controversy and will go on with promoting her upcoming album, “Bionic,” as scheduled. MTV News has official confirmation that Aguilera will be performing the single at this year’s MTV Movie Awards.

“Not Myself Tonight” was officially released a couple of weeks ago, while the video dropped last Friday, when it caused a huge splash as regards its appropriateness and whether Christina was being shockingly original or just shocking to no effect. For her performance at the movie awards, Christina has considered the leading single, which means that, given the words to it, fans are in for one fiery live show.

“Just two days before Christina Aguilera’s long-awaited Bionic LP is set to drop, MTV will be throwing her one heck of a coming-out party: Aguilera will take the stage to perform ‘Not Myself Tonight’ at the MTV Movie Awards on June 6. ‘MTV has always been a supporter of my music and my career and I am so excited to perform once again on the Movie Awards,’ said Aguilera, who performed on the show in 2006. ‘My performance comes just days before the release of my album Bionic’,” MTV writes citing Christina herself.

MTV too believes the “Not Myself Tonight” might be an indication of the upcoming performance. “Fans got an advance look at what they may see during Aguilera’s MTV performance when her eye-grabbing video for ‘Not Myself Tonight’ premiered last week, presenting fetish-themed outerwear, aggressive dance routines and a whole lotta flesh. The full album, which hits shelves on June 8, comes from collaborations with Sia, Tricky Stewart, Polow Da Don, Linda Perry, Le Tigre, Ladytron, Hill & Switch, and others,” the same e-zine reports.

The other day, Christina defended her video from criticism, saying that being a mother does not mean she’s to suddenly stop expressing herself artistically. In this context, with the “Not Myself Tonight,” her son Max will have to learn to make the distinction between Christina Aguilera his mother and Christina Aguilera the music artist.
