Whenever asked if he would take Batman past “The Dark Knight Rises,” Chris Nolan said that this was where the franchise stopped. This left fans with the only hope of seeing Christian Bale again as the Caped Crusader in a planned “Justice League” movie.

If you too were among them, you can kiss those dreams goodbye.

Despite rumors to the contrary (i.e. saying that Bale had already agreed to reprise the Batman role for the film), the actor sets the record straight: he hasn’t even been asked to come back, let alone agree to it.

“I have no information, no knowledge about anything. I’ve literally not had a conversation with a living soul. I understand that they may be making a Justice League movie, that’s it,” he tells EW in a new interview.

Since you can’t have a “Justice League” movie without a Batman, this brings up the question of Bale’s replacement. Who he might be is anyone’s guess right now.

“It’s a torch that should be handed from one actor to another. So I enjoy looking forward to what somebody else will come up with. We were incredibly fortunate to get to make three [Batman films]. That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy,” Bale says.

What you must be hearing right now is the sound of millions of fans crying over their shattered dreams.
