14 DAY TRIAL // Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin said in their divorce announcement that they planned to keep the split amicable because of the love they still had for each other and the fact that they had 2 children together, but, behind closed doors, things have already gotten nasty.
As rumors of cheating on both sides continue to make the rounds, insiders close to the Coldplay singer reveal for Radar Online that he is starting to think that Gwyneth might be behind the most recent round of gossip claiming that Martin slept with an SNL assistant in 2011.
In other words, Chris suspects Gwyneth is playing very dirty, feeding false stories to the magazines because she’s trying to discredit him in the eyes of the public. This is certainly not an uncommon strategy with divorcing celebrities, but in this particular case, it’s not done out of revenge.
Gwyneth is planning on taking Chris to the cleaners in the divorce proceedings, sources say for the e-zine. They have a combined worth of about $280 million (€202.2 million), and she’s thinking she can walk away with an estimated $25 million (€18 million) in spousal support. It is not known if they have a prenup.
“Gwyn is so angry that she’s threatening to turn the divorce ugly, saying she’s going to squeeze spousal support out of Chris, despite her multi-million dollar fortune. Gwyneth believes she deserves a settlement of at least a lump sum of $25 million [€18 million] from Chris because he is the breadwinner and their kids will live with her most of the time,” says a spy.
“She believes Chris should ‘man up’ and do the chivalrous thing. Friends are bracing for an ugly divorce showdown,” adds the same tipster.
The same friends can’t but notice “a major double standard” in the way Gwyneth handled all marital affairs in recent years, particularly when it came to their so-called open relationship: it was open for her (and she allegedly made sure it was so), but Chris wasn’t really “allowed” to sleep with other women.
“Chris is telling friends that Gwyneth was so self-involved that she believed she was more evolved than Chris and that she could better emotionally handle juggling out of marriage relationships with other men,” another source further explains for Radar.
Gwyneth and Chris were married for 11 years. Despite the divorce (aka the “conscious uncoupling”) announcement, as you can see in the photo above, posted on the actress’ Twitter the other day, she is still wearing her wedding band.
