Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow were married for 10 years and are now in the process of what the Oscar-winning actress called in the divorce announcement a “conscious uncoupling.” In a new interview cited by the Daily Mail, the singer reveals that many other things are different in his life now, after the split.

One of them involves his diet: he is no longer a vegetarian. It is a well-known fact that Paltrow is a vegetarian and a very strict dieter, often speaking about her kids’ diets, which are as strict as hers, and her love of cleanses.

At some point after the split became official, there was a lot of talk about how the diet was one of the reasons the marriage stopped working, because Chris had finally gotten tired of always being told when to eat, what to eat and, most importantly, what not to eat.

Because Gwyneth set the same set of strict rules for their children, Chris reportedly fought with her a lot on the topic, because he wanted them to enjoy the treat of a burger or of an ice cream every once in a while. Sure, Gwyneth could oversee their diet and reinforce the restrictions, but all he wanted from her (allegedly) was to allow them treats on occasion.

Regardless of whether there’s any truth to these rumors or not, at least we know for a fact now that Chris is back to eating meat. However, he stresses, he won’t eat just any kind of meat.

“I am not really vegetarian. I eat meat. I was vegetarian for a long time but for various reasons I changed. My daughter [Apple, 10] has been a vegetarian since she was born. I keep getting tempted to go back but I don’t eat too much meat,” the star reveals.

“The honest answer why I changed is because I thought you can only eat something that you should be able to kill. I don’t why I am talking about this. I have got to stop as there will be some sort of headline. I mean ‘Could you kill a fish?’ I would not like it but I probably could eat the fish... or a giraffe... I have been called the world’s [hottest] vegetarian. I don’t think I am the world’s [hottest] singer. I think I came about 17th,” Martin continues.

We’re not about to discuss here the pros and cons of becoming a vegetarian or whether Martin was wrong or right in going back to eating meat, now that – supposedly – Gwyneth is no longer by his side, watching over his shoulder like a hawk.

One thing is certain, though: Chris Martin was right about one thing. This statement of his did become a headline.
