Big reveal took place on Jimmy Kimmel, who didn’t make the list this year either, much to his disappointment

The people People have spoken: as it happens every year, the celebrity publication names the hottest male in showbiz, based on feedback from the fans, career achievements, popularity and of course, good looks. The holder of People’s Sexiest Man Alive for the year 2014 is none other than Australian actor Chris Hemsworth.

The big reveal was made hours ago on Jimmy Kimmel’s show, with Chris on Skype and fans trying to guess his identity (he had his face covered) by asking him questions.

While Chris’ fans and the members in Kimmel’s audience was clearly thrilled to find out that he had received this “honor” from the mag, fans of another actor, Chris Pratt, believe a recount is in order because he got robbed.

Chris Hemsworth outdoes fellow hotties

For about a week now, there’s been a lot of buzz online about who might be named People’s hottest this year. More than being praised for being good looking, the distinction is also a sign of recognition as a celebrity (not so much as an actor), because it means the man in question has managed to go mainstream that year.

Because of the attention that Chris Pratt has received for his role in Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy,” many believed he was a shoe-in for the title. Others were rooting for Tom Hiddleston or even Benedict Cumberbatch.

For these fans and for many others, it was a surprise to hear that Hemsworth was crowned the hottest. He’s garnered a lot of attention before for his role as Thor in Marvel’s superhero cinematic universe, so it wasn’t like 2014 was really that big a year for him in terms of media attention or popularity.

Still, he’s happy he was honored this way, because, he tells the mag, for at least a couple of weeks, he will be using his new title to get out of nappies duty and other household chores. “I’m above that. I’ve made it now,” he laughs.

Chris Hemsworth, handsome AND funny

Chris Hemsworth isn’t just a pretty face, he made sure to tell Kimmel after he was revealed as People’s newest title holder. To even be in the running for Sexiest Alive, he also had to take an IQ test, so this is why he won. Obviously, he’s just messing around, because this distinction isn’t one that you can take too seriously.

The other thing that stands out about the Thor actor, besides his good looks, is his sense of humor. If you watch the video below, you will hear him explain how he got all his tips on being hot from older title holder Matt Damon, and how he had spent the entire week before the big reveal shooting “sexy looks” with his equally hot brother Liam Hemsworth, whom you probably know best from “The Hunger Games” franchise. Team Gale all the way.

He also uses his time onscreen to thank his parents for “putting this together,” he says pointing at his face. The fans are also thankful to them… except for those rooting for Chris Pratt.

Chris Pratt got robbed!

As noted above, few expected Chris Hemsworth to receive this People title, mostly because Chris Pratt was considered a certain thing.

2014 was the year when Chris Pratt became a household name: he’d already done very varied work in film, from comedy to drama and action, but he needed Marvel to really go “big.” This happened when he starred as Peter Quill in “Guardians of the Galaxy” and he proved that he could do big action movies with humor – and a body to rival any other superhero star.

From the interviews he did to promote the film, Pratt came across as the most endearing and relatable actor of his generation, which won him even more fans. Most of them were positive he would be on People’s cover on this highly anticipated issue.

So they’re upset now and they’re going on social media to vent: they believe Pratt was robbed and they’d like People to reconsider their choice of Hemsworth as the hottest. If you follow celebrity gossip, you probably know that this kind of uproar has happened in previous years as well – and it never materialized into the magazine editors taking going back on their initial choice.

It’s safe to assume that Chris Hemsworth will remain People’s hottest for 2014.
