Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield needs no introduction to space geeks and not only. He's been very active while aboard the ISS, shooting incredible photos, doing interviews, recording songs, tweeting and sometimes even attending his job.

But he's taking on one more task, quite an important one – he's becoming the Commander of the ISS as of today, as the leader of Expedition 35 which starts now.

The three astronauts part of Expedition 34 will be boarding the Soyuz craft and go home, leaving only three astronauts on board, the latest to arrive, a few months ago.

Hadfield will become the first Canadian to command the ISS and will be in charge of the first half of the Expedition 35.

The six astronauts still aboard the ISS held a semi-official changing of the guards ceremony; Expedition 34 Commander Kevin Ford talked about the mission of the ISS and the people currently aboard it, and even played the Canadian national anthem for Chris.
