Chris Evans laughs off talk of an early retirement after he’s done with Captain America

Chris Evans returns as Steve Rogers / Captain America in the second installment in his standalone franchise, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” this weekend but, if you were among the fans dreading the day when he’s done with the role because of his plans to retire, don’t worry: he’s not hanging up his gloves just yet.

In one of his most recent interviews, Evans said that, once his Marvel contract was up – in 2017, he estimated – he would stop making movies completely and focus solely on directing. Until then too, he would only make movies for Marvel, he said.

Though it didn’t seem like he was misquoted, this is exactly what happened, Evans said on ABC’s Good Morning America just hours ago, as the video below will confirm. He calls it a “silly little statement.”

“[Suddenly I'm] retiring, hanging up the shoes, I guess! By no means am I planning on retiring. It’s kind of a silly statement. I said that I directed last year and I really responded to it. I really enjoyed it, and I’d love to focus a little more on that,” Chris explains.

I won’t get now into the possibility that Variety, one of the most prestigious film publications out there, put words in Chris’ mouth or took his statements out of context. This looks like more damage control on Evans’ part, but I’m sure that his fans, like myself, are just too happy he’s not retiring to dwell on technicalities.
