As the release date of one of this summer’s blockbusters is drawing near, Chris Evans is suddenly everywhere. Which is only understandable, come to think of it, since his Captain America is billed as this summer’s biggest superhero.

After Entertainment Weekly and LA Times’ Hero Complex, Captain America is now on the cover of the prestigious Empire magazine.

Decked in his superhero suit, with his shield in hand, fists tightly clenched and doing his best “fierce gaze” impression, America’s beloved superhero means serious business.

As we also noted on a previous occasion, there was some doubt about whether Evans could pull off such a serious role, since he’s known to play the adorably geeky heartbreaker to perfection.

By the looks of the photo on the cover of the movie magazine, it’s safe to say there’s little doubt left about that now. If one also takes a look at the interview that comes with the issue in question, even that disappears.

“I’ve always loved Raiders and the tone that it had. It was period but didn’t feel like it was made in the period. It felt like a modern-day film about the period, which is what we’re doing on Captain America,” director Joe Johnston says (quotes via ScreenCrave).

“It will not feel like a war movie. It’s funny where it needs to be and emotional where it needs to be and serious and full of action,” the director adds.

This comes to confirm what Johnston already said in a previous interview: “Captain America: The First Avenger” will be a superhero movie with a twist and, because of it, it will totally surprise everyone.

For starters, actor Chris Evans points out, he’s not just an all-American hero; he’s the hero every nation would love to have. Then, he’s also very human in the way he’s portrayed.

“I think he’s the ideal human. Not just American. It’s what being a good person is. Steve’s managed to overcome all the shortcomings he’s had in life and he does what’s good and what he believes is right,” the actor explains.
