With Rihanna staying out of the spotlight in Mexico, and Chris Brown keeping a low profile until his first arraignment in court, rumors are circulating to the left and right as to the direction this scandal will take in the coming weeks. Apparently, Brown will plead self-defense for charges of making terrorist threats and domestic violence, sources are telling Life & Style Weekly magazine.

Of course, given that the two stars involved in the February 8 altercation are not speaking with the media, as neither are their publicists because they have to allow the police investigation to proceed unhindered, this means more freedom for so-called “friends” of the two in terms of the statements they can make to magazines and tabloids. One can easily take as an example the latest “source” to step up with details on Brown’s plans for the lawsuit that is coming his way.

“Chris is already building his case. He’s saying she threw a phone at him, then hit him in the head and basically just lost it. He’s saying she attacked him.” the spy says for the aforementioned magazine. Should this be true, then Brown would claim that it was Rihanna who provoked him, by taking the car keys out of the ignition and throwing them out the window, and by starting to hit him first. As such, he only defended himself from her by punching, chocking and biting her, it is being added.

As of now, it is not yet certain if such an approach would hold any water with the prosecution, as neither is it if Brown really considers taking it. Moreover, the police investigation could continue past the March 5 deadline, which would mean that the first court hearing would also be pushed back until the police have enough evidence in the case to see what charges can be brought up.

Other Brown-related rumors have it that LAPD is now looking to pin an attempted murder charge on the 19-year-old singer, which would be backed by his telling Rihanna “I’m going to [expletive]ing kill you,” while choking her until she blacked out. Since the LAPD is not saying anything about the case right now, this too is just speculation at this point.
