14 DAY TRIAL // When Chris Brown and Rihanna got back together even though he beat her to a pulp in 2009 in a fit of rage, some fans and many representatives of the media were outraged. Their reconciliation didn’t sit well with Chris’ father, Clinton Brown, either.
Speaking with the New York Daily News, Clinton reveals that he was surprised to find out his son had gotten back to Rihanna.
“I personally really didn’t want him and Rihanna back together,” he says.
He doesn’t see a future for the relationship, but he understands its appeal: Rihanna is gorgeous and she seems like a nice girl. Clinton says he met her before the 2009 incident.
“You have to have a balance in a relationship. You have to have someone who is spontaneous and whimsical but you also have to have someone who is grounded and logical,” he says of why his son’s relationship with RiRi can’t work.
“She’s beautiful, she’s exotic, she’s successful,” he concedes. “Sometimes you just need that person who will listen to you without judging, who knows what it feels like. If he talks to someone who’s not in the business they may not understand.”
He would have liked Chris to date Jordin Sparks but, since his son didn’t ask him, he’ll just have to accept it as it is.
However, he stresses, the fact that Chris and Rihanna got back together could very well mean that the 2009 incident wasn’t “one-sided” but a situation to which they both contributed to in equal measure.
In other words, if Chris beat her, it’s because of something she did or said.
If Clinton is to take a wild guess, Chris and Rihanna won’t have a baby anytime soon – not unless she curbs her wild partying ways and settles down a bit. “But anything’s possible, man,” he adds.
