Following Oprah’s public reprimand

Singer Chris Brown has gone into full damage-control mode following last week’s interview with Larry King, which failed to get the kind of response he anticipated, and having been publicly reprimanded by Oprah Winfrey. As regards that last part, Brown tells People magazine he is now ready to face the music for what he did to then-girlfriend Rihanna back in February, and to seek counseling if that’s what it takes to do so.

This statement comes shortly after Oprah reprimanded him via a press statement, scolding him for saying that she should have had his back in the media, especially since he once performed at her charity school in Africa. In response, the television personality urged him to seek professional help and not expect the world to forget that he had been physically abusive towards a woman just because he happened to be a celebrity. And this is precisely what Brown aims to do right now.

“I want to understand my feelings. I want to find out what really transpired as far as me that night. Sometimes when you’re young you don’t know how to express [your emotions], so I think it actually would be helpful to talk to a counselor or to somebody who has an expertise in what those [feelings] are.” Brown says in a statement released for the aforementioned magazine. Reports in the media suggest that he may have already started looking for domestic-violence programs to dedicate his time.

“I wanted to take the counseling upon myself and… just talk to someone. I just need to talk to someone. I wanted to understand the problem at hand.” Brown himself says for People. Nevertheless, he doesn’t believe he has an anger problem, but vouches he will do his best for the February incident never to repeat itself. “If I do, I will work with my counselor and hopefully channel my anger into something like dancing. I don’t think I would get that mad again. I want to be a man, so I have to be more responsible... I’d rather walk away.” the singer further explains.

Chris Brown was sentenced for domestic abuse to five years on probation, during which time he’s not allowed to speak to or get near Rihanna, community work, completing a domestic-violence program and some small change in legal fees.
