Accuse Chris Brown of what you will, but there is one thing that he won’t stand the media says of him, and that’s him saying he doesn’t remember beating his former girlfriend Rihanna, back in February this year. The singer issued a statement to TMZ, clarifying a snippet of an interview with Larry King for CNN, in which it seems that Brown is saying he doesn’t remember lifting a finger against Rihanna.

The snippet, actually a preview for the full-length interview that has been released by CNN for promotional purposes, shows a bowtie-wearing Brown apparently at a loss for words when King asks him how he came to be abusive towards his girlfriend. He then flatly denies hitting her – or this is what it seems he’s doing from the truncated interview. According to Brown’s statement, this couldn’t be farther from the truth: he does remember assaulting Rihanna and continues to be extremely sorry about it.

The preview aired on TV and then posted online represented only a fraction of the entire interview and his words somehow got taken out of context, the singer says by means of explanation. Assuming he would ever have the Audacity to claim that Rihanna was making the charges up is preposterous, the star further points out, as well as insulting to him. “Of course I remember what happened. Several times during the interview, my mother said that I came to her right afterwards and told her everything. But it was and still is a blur. And yes, I still can’t believe it happened because it is not me or who I am or is what happened like anything I have ever done before.” Brown says.

The explanation for why it looked like he was saying he did not remember if he had hit Rihanna or not is simple, the star further explains in the same statement. The interviewer, King, in this case, asked him the same question for about four or five times more before the scene that was aired. “The first four times – or how ever many times it was – I gave the same answer – which was that I didn’t think it was appropriate for me to talk about what happened that night. I said it was not right for me and it really wasn’t fair to Rihanna. The fifth time – or whatever it was – I just misspoke. I was asked, ‘Do you remember doing it?’ and I said, ‘No.’” Brown’s statement reads.

You can see and hear Brown apparently trying to explain the February 8 incident to Larry King. The question of whether he remembered hitting Rihanna supposedly came next.
