While some would give an arm and a leg to be allowed to have a pet dog, and others adopt one but would like to be able to have more, one Chinese woman is apparently single-handedly trying to rescue all stray animals.

As a report on Orange.UK informs, a Chinese woman has adopted no less than 1,500 dogs in one shelter and about 200 cats in a separate one.

She didn’t deliberately set out to found such a huge rescue center: at first, she only wanted to rescue a few animals, believing she could offer them a better life than the one they had in the street.

In almost no time, she was bankrupt and was handling an entire rescue center for stray dogs, relying on the help of volunteers to make do, says the aforementioned report.

“Ha Wenjin gave up her business career and sold her house, car and jewelry to set up her unofficial dog rescue centre in Tangquan County, Nanjing,” Orange.UK informs.

In order to take care of all these pooches, Ha Wenjin enlists the help of 10 other people, while she also employs 2 to take care of the 200 cats in the other shelter.

However, trouble is only now beginning for the mother of all stray dogs and cats, since the government has reclaimed the land she’s now using for “redevelopment.”

“I had to find a new place which was deserted and not close to any human habitat, as 1,500 dogs are not quiet. And the place had to be very cheap to rent, as most of our income comes from donations,” Ha told the local media.

She has now found the new location, but she has another problem: how does she move over 1,700 animals from one shelter to the other and, most importantly, who can help her with it?

“Finances are so tight that she partly relies on volunteer days when people bring hundreds of ‘pork buns’ to feed the dogs,” Orange.UK writes.

“Ha eventually found a site, in Houyu village, Pukou County, but desperately needs funds to get the new animal rescue centre up and running,” the report says.

On December 4, Ha will move the animals she has rescued from one place to the other: all volunteers willing to lend a helping hand with the move and cleaning the vehicles afterwards are more than welcome.
