Communication for the win!

Hackers have been causing a lot of damage as of late and since the attack on the Pentagon that got so much attention from the press, everybody's been talking about cyberwar. 'Talking' is the right word here, since up until now, I haven't heard of a lot of people actually DOING something about it, taking measures against it. Sure, many officials came out in the press stating that cyber-security issues are being tackled, but now, I've heard of a Chinese researcher actually calling for international cooperation - way to go!

Chinese hackers were behind that cyber-aggression, behind cyber-attacks against Germany, France and the UK, as well as some other countries. However, such attacks happen daily, but are not always publicly disclosed. Also, Chinese officials have denied any state implication in the hacks and also stated that China is a victim of cyber-attacks too. And to be honest, I think every country is.

Now that things have become quieter (in the press at least), the Chinese researcher has stated that things cannot remain this way. As I've seen on Hong Kong News, Wang Xinjun, of the Academy of Military Sciences, said that countries would intensify exchanges of information on hacker attacks and make it easier for other countries to track down the hackers.

In my opinion, this is a great initiative, as communicating is probably the best way to solve an issue. Sure, this would mean that countries would have to publicly acknowledge some attacks, but then again, it's all for the best. Some government officials chose not to disclose cyber-attacks as they think that it will make the country seem vulnerable and it would make some people panic. Sure, there are many approaches to this, and each country adopts different politics, but hacks can lead to severe consequences, that's why it would be a great thing for countries to face common threats together.
