Because they promote a 'bad taste'

China is one of those countries struggling to censor all kinds of material and it seems like the nude content may see its end very soon. The Chinese authorities have started a national campaign supposed to reduce the amount of nudity and sexual content appearing in video or audio material because they promote "bad taste", the Associated Press reported. The campaign will last 3 months and all the audio and video producers will be encouraged to stop publishing "vulgar" content and, moreover, to recall the infringing products that have already been on the market, AP added citing the General Administration of Press and Publication.

"Some of the video and audio products are coarsely made, containing materials of bad taste", the officials commented the campaign, according to the same source.

What's interesting is that the Chinese authorities plan to promote the campaign all over the country and "encourage" all the infringing products' owners to comply with the requirements. You're probably asking what's with the quote when I said encourage... It's simple: the method supposed to be used by the authorities is not quite encouraging because all the publishers who infringe the rules will be punished, but the official avoided offering more details about this aspect of the campaign.

I'm sure you know that China has always been one of the countries that tried to limit the access of its residents to all kinds of content, no matter we're talking about movies, blogs or websites. Numerous blogs were banned, a lot of websites got shut down and several movies were prohibited in the country because they showed things not allowed in the country.

Take for instance, AP's example: the "Lost in Beijing" movie, which got banned in Beijing because it was promoted "with 'unhealthy, improper' advertisements", as the said source mentioned.
