This past weekend, China's new Premier, Li Keqiang, agreed to sit for a press conference and did his best to stress the fact that he and his government were to soon roll out policies aimed at dealing with the country's ongoing pollution crisis.

Inhabitat reports that, from Li Keqiang's standpoint, the country's economic growth must be kept from negatively impacting on the environment, especially since public health also has to suffer whenever pollution levels go through the roof.

Despite the fact that Li Keqiang did not share any specific information concerning his plans of dealing with pollution, he did say that, “This government will show even greater resolve and take more vigorous efforts to clean up such pollution [i.e. the smog and the dead pigs that have recently showed up in a river in Shanghai].”

“We need to face the situation and punish offenders with no mercy and enforce the law with an iron fist,” he reportedly went on to argue.
