Chinese officials say they’re prepared to discuss ways of strengthening cyber security cooperation with the US at the Strategic and Economic Dialogue that will take place next week in Washington.

“We are ready to work with the United States and engage in dialogue and communication and, on the basis of mutual respect and mutual trust, enhance understanding and consensus and work with the international community to build a peaceful, secure, open and co-operative cyberspace,” said Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Zheng Zeguang, cited by the Independent.

Zheng also took the opportunity to remind everyone of what NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden said a few days ago about China being a target of the US’s cyber espionage operations.

“The information released by the media shows once again that China is among the victims of cyber attacks,” he noted.

Representatives of China and the US will discuss matters such as territorial disputes, climate change, and finance. The dialogue will also include the inaugural gathering of the US-Chinese cyber security group.
