After re-acquiring the rights to Children of the Nile and the license from SEGA and Myelin Media, developers Tilted Mill are saying that the title is coming to Steam, in an effort to offer gamers everywhere the possibility to enjoy the innovative city builder. The game was the first in its genre to introduce a "living city" system which made the inhabitants act in accordance with a set of needs and principles which guided their lives. The player had to take into account not just the economic challenges of building a thriving city, but also the social problems that could arise.

The new Steam version of Children of the Nile includes exclusive content, support for the Windows Vista operating system and quite a big number of tweaks to the gameplay and the user interface that are designed to improve "the game's balance, pacing and general feel", as its creators put it.

The players who already have the original title can get all the updates available for free from the developer's website.

Tilted Mill is mostly made up of people that worked for Impressions. The company has created two other games: Caesar IV, a re-imagining of the classic city builder which had solid gameplay foundations but lacked the innovations of the previous titles in the city building series, and SimCity Societies, the last release in the long running Sim City franchise, a game widely criticized by die hard fans for being way too simple.

Chris Beatrice, who is the founder of Tilted Mill, stated that "Tilted Mill is committed to advancing the Children of the Nile franchise as an independent studio with the release of the Enhanced Edition, and we are bringing the CotN experience to a whole new audience of players by expanding our distribution network with the leading online platform for PC Games, Steam".
