Child of Light, the upcoming role-playing game from Ubisoft, has just received some more details about its combat system and how players will be able to use their different party members to great effect both when playing alone and with a friend.

Child of Light was revealed last year as an innovative new role-playing experience with a strong emphasis on Japanese-style turn-based mechanics. The title is set to debut on April 30 so the publisher has offered some more details about the actual gameplay experience via the UbiBlog.

Players will start by controlling Aurora, a young girl stranded in a mysterious fantasy world, and they'll soon meet Igniculus, a glowing orb that can be controlled by the player with the other analog stick or by a friend if you're playing cooperatively.

Much like in Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, for example, players will need to use both characters in order to solve puzzles that can range from platform manipulation, to more complex actions centered around light and Igniculus' ability to manipulate it.

The actual combat is inspired by Japanese Role-Playing Games, although it does introduce a few new things like a gauge at the bottom of the screen that shows when you and your opponents are able to attack.

Players will be able to use Igniculus to blind enemies and slow them down, preventing their attacks from entering the red casting zone in the gauge. As such, you can start going on the offense sooner or interrupt his ongoing attacks and send him back down the meter.

Igniculus, however, does have other abilities, such as power to harvest Wishes that are scattered around the screen in the form of flowers and give health or mana points, not to mention points to replenish Igniculus' light bar.

Last but not least, the small orb can also hover around Aurora and slowly heal her, although this does drain his light energy much faster.

Players will also be able to collect stones called Oculi in the game, which are found in different chests, and can be equipped up to three at a time to give various effects and bonuses, from higher health or mana to elemental attacks against different enemies. You can also combine the Oculi in different ways to produce even more powerful variations that suit your play style.

Child of Light is set to debut on April 30 for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and Wii U.
