A new survey shows that the hottest IT fashion item right now is not bags, shoes or even clothes but rather a piece of hosiery, as worn by stars like Cheryl Cole, Pixie Lott and Alexandra Burke.

The survey commissioned by Tights Please and cited by the Daily Mail reveals that women (in the UK, at least) will pay up to £30 to own the bondage tights Cheryl rocks in her latest video.

The singer, who has always been considered very fashion forward and, because of it, quite a trendsetter, is pictured in her latest video in nothing but a blazer and the aforementioned tights.

Women, it would seem, believe they can rock the look outdoors as well – perhaps when clubbing. Sales for this type of model is expected to soar in the following days.

“Sixty-three per cent of women now spend between £11 and £30 on a single pair of tights, inspired by the legwear of stars including Cheryl Cole and Alexandra Burke according to a new survey,” the Mail reports.

“Online retailer Tights Please, which commissioned the research, is now predicting a surge in sales of Wolford’s £32 Bondage tights after Cheryl Cole was spotted wearing them in the video for her single Promise This,” the same magazine says.

Patterned tights have been all the rage since last fall – and, this season, they will hold their ground with other trends.

Because they’re accessible and comfortable to wear, they’re women’s favorite item when it comes to glamming up what would otherwise be an ordinary outfit.

“Tights have become key to the total look of an outfit and the price women are prepared to pay for them has increased, as they are no longer seen as an after-thought,” Charles Duncombe, director of Tights Please, says for the Mail.

“We have been retailing tights for 10 years and have seen the average price rise from £4 in 2000 to £7 today as customers have demanded higher quality. This is an increase of 30 per cent over inflation,” he explains.

“The explosion of the celebrity scene on the internet has created a ‘me too’ approach to buying hosiery and our customers want to look just like their favorite stars,” Duncombe adds.

Men too can join in the fun – thanks to the so-called mantyhose we were telling you about one year ago.
