Ever since she joined the Girls Aloud in 2002, Cheryl Cole has seen a dramatic transformation from girl next door to style diva. An equally drastic change has also been noted as regards Cheryl’s weight, but that is not to say that she’s too skinny, as the 25-year-old star insists in a new interview with Grazia magazine.

Cheryl’s weight has often held headlines in recent months, mostly because she managed to drop a couple of dress sizes seemingly in no time. Initial speculation had it that she got slimmer because of the strain her marriage to footballer Ashley Cole was under when rumor broke out that he was having an affair with a hairdresser. When she continued to keep thin, the tabloid media began to whisper that she might not be “playing by the rules,” and might even be suffering from an eating disorder.

Far from the truth, Cheryl now says. She does lose weight on a regular basis, but it only happens when she’s on tour with the Girls because of the grueling schedule and the many dance rehearsals that take a toll on her already small frame. As a matter of fact, if there’s anything she hates, that’s being called thin because this is not the kind of image she wants to project for herself to all the girls out there who look up to her for inspiration.

“Don’t say I’m thin. I don’t want to be thin. I hate looking thin. I don’t want to be up and down like a lollipop lady. It’s not a good look.” Cheryl says for the mag. “I admit I do lose weight when we’re on tour, but it makes me mad when people seem to think I’m doing it for the sake of it. I challenge anyone to do the ridiculous amount of exercise and dancing we do day in day out and not lose weight and tone up.” the singer adds.

However, thin or not, another thing that Cheryl hates is seeing photos of herself from her early days with the Girls Aloud. She was too heavy for her frame at the time, she says, which is why she simply can’t bear to see pictures from back then, such as is the case with one particular photo (first photo) that Grazia shows her.

“Oh my God! Please can you destroy these? My God, my God. What an embarrassment! I was a fashion idiot. And look at my stomach. It’s huge, I look like I’ve got a little secret to tell. This has been my journey from chav to chic.” Cheryl tells the mag when shown the photo.
