Much has been said and put into print in the British media about how Cher Lloyd, Cheryl Cole’s pet and a favorite to win the latest edition of X Factor, is a diva backstage. In a recent interview, she confirms throwing a tantrum – over fashion.

Right before going live last weekend for her first performance in front of a public who could vote and thus decide her fate on the show, Cher had a mini breakdown.

Word of this first got out in the tabloid media, with News of the World saying her temper was getting on everybody’s nerves and that the best for her at this point would be to just get a grip on herself.

Speaking with X magazine (as cited by STV), Cher herself admits that, indeed, she did have a meltdown before taking the stage – but it wasn’t because she’s a diva but rather because she didn’t like her clothes.

As fans must know, the clothes that contestants wear on the live shows are selected by a stylist who is in charge of their public image. Cher doesn’t really appreciate that.

Before going live, she told the stylist that she didn’t want to wear the clothes that had been chosen for her, and threatened she wouldn’t perform at all if she didn’t have it her way.

Consequently, Cher took to the stage in her own clothes – and had to borrow a pair of boots from her mentor, Cheryl, yet another diehard fashionista like herself.

“I had a bit of a meltdown earlier in the week. But I just couldn’t go on stage in something I felt uncomfortable in. So these are my own clothes, I styled myself,” Cher admits.

“Well, actually, shh, these are Cheryl’s shoes. She lent them to me. It’s a good thing Louis isn’t my mentor, or I’d have been wearing his shoes on TV,” the singer adds.

At the same time, sources are saying that this wasn’t the first time Cher threw a tantrum and it would certainly not be the last, since she does seem bent on having it her way.

“It’s not the first time she’s thrown a tantrum. She had never even sung live before and here she is telling stylists with years of experience what to do. But in fairness, maybe she was right,” a spy says.

It seems rival Katie Waissel has the same problem with the show’s stylist and the image that’s being construed for her, as we also informed you the other day.

After being forced to wear a futuristic plastic helmet for last week’s performance, Katie has reportedly warned producers that she’ll walk if she isn’t allowed to be herself and dress accordingly.
