This week, People magazine is releasing a special collectors’ edition that comes packed with photos from the upcoming “New Moon” film and the third, “Eclipse,” which is just now shooting, as well as interviews and details from behind the cameras. Among the many things fans will learn about “Twilight” with this special issue is also that the chemistry between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart is genuine – and is not limited only to the set of the film, as a press release to Twilight Lexicon informs.

People got to speak to Catherine Hardwicke, the director who helmed “Twilight,” the first film in the series. According to her, there are so many sparks flying around when the two young stars are together, it’s practically impossible not to notice them. Of course, that’s far from saying they’re an item in real life and are so replicating their onscreen romance, it just means that the two are great together.

“Director-turned-matchmaker Catherine Hardwicke says that Pattinson and Stewart had sparks flying between them from the first ‘Action!’ Everyone noticed the connection instantly – especially Pattinson himself. ‘When I read Twilight, and there are these moony descriptions of Edward as a godlike figure, I thought there was no way I could play him,’ he recalls. ‘But when I got in the room with Kristen, there was a certain chemistry. She’s basically the reason I did the movie.’” the statement from People as to the special edition reads.

“While filming Twilight, one romantic scene between Pattinson and Stewart told Hardwicke everything she needed to know. ‘When they were kissing,’ she recalls with a smile, ‘Rob got a little passionate and fell off the bed!’ Despite concerns about mixing love and work, the two finally succumbed to their feelings. ‘They’re genuine, and they’re very talented,’ explains costar Ashley Greene of the common ground they share. ‘It’s like a secret potion that you can’t really pinpoint, but they both have it.’” it further says.

In all fairness, this should probably put to rest rumors of an affair between the two, at least for a while. Then again, it’s not the first time that both cast members and the two themselves deny any romantic involvement to no avail, as the tabloids continue to run stories about their “affair” on a regular basis.
