People who enjoy eating cheese and do so quite often are likely to sport healthier teeth than others. This is because cheese allegedly helps neutralize plaque acid, thus reducing the need for dental care.

What's more, researchers say that cheese can created a protective film around teeth, and that this in turn helps protect them against the decay they might experience in time.

Daily Mail says that, as surprising as this may sound, milk and yogurt are powerless when it comes to preventing tooth decay.

“The groups who consumed milk and sugar-free yogurt experienced no changes in the pH levels in their mouths.”

“Subjects who ate cheese, however, showed a rapid increase in pH levels at each time interval, suggesting that cheese has anti-cavity properties,” Vipul Yadav sums up the findings of several experiments he and his colleagues have carried out with the help of volunteers.

A study detailing the health benefits associated with eating cheese was published in the journal General Dentistry.
