Those following the news in the 3D printing industry might be aware that the 3D printing of buildings isn't so Sci-Fi as it sounds anymore.

Several companies and individuals in China and the US have been known to successfully print 3D construction materials like the walls of houses.

Even more, a Slovenian company that goes by the name of BetAbdram is looking to start selling 3D printers capable of printing the house of your dreams.

But these projects focus on building the outer shell of the home, by providing you with walls and a roof to put over your head. However, that alone won’t transform the adobe into a home, as you’ll still need furniture, accessories and all the little things you need to experience a sense of well-being.

Now, a new company going by the name of Emerging Objects wants to focus on the designer aspects of building a home, so it won’t tackle the construction aspects of the matter, but focus on interior construction and design.

Their ongoing project dubbed “3D Printed House 1.0” has been under development for a year or so, and judging by the images, the results are pretty spectacular.

The schematic design has been commissioned by the Jin Hai Lake Resort in Beijing and will soon been included in a catalog for possible houses that might end up being developed.

To be perfectly truthful, the Emerging Objects team cheated a little bit, because the 3D Printed Hose 1.0 is not 100% 3D printed.

Instead, the house relies on a combination of traditional methods for building a home mixed with 3D printing.

Even if so far 3D printed houses have required extremely large 3D printers in order to get the job done, this particular adobe uses a 3D printer farm composed of a bunch of 3D printers used to print bricks, tiles and so on.

One amazing aspect about the process is that the team uses renewable materials such as salt (!) and a special cement polymer. As you can see in the pictures from the gallery, the salt 3D-printed room looks absolutely stunning, allowing the skylights to shine through the fabric of the walls. Absolutely gorgeous!

The 3D Printed House 1.0 is made up of large rooms and vessel-like sub-rooms which are reminiscent of some lovely cocoons and are set up to provide a level of intimacy for those inhabiting the building.

The exterior of the house is made up of a fiber reinforced cement polymer, which is said to be stronger than traditional concrete.

Using this material, Emerging Objects 3D prints what are being called Picoroco Blocks, which are basically construction blocks with openings that allow the light to come through.

While the concept is beautiful indeed, it would be hard to believe you could actually have a house with see-through walls in an environment other than vacation resorts. Anyway, take a tour in the gallery to see what the future of architecture might look like.
