Earlier today, I brought you news that Datawind has brought one of the cheapest slates ever produced, in the UK. The UbiSlate 7Ci currently sells for just $49 / €36 in the country, but it might be a while until the Indian manufacturer brings the device to the US.

In the meantime, while we’re waiting, you could pick up your ultimate cheap slate from Office Depot. The retailer awards the Apex AP-7S118 tablet for a ridiculous $50 / €36 a pop, reports TeleRead. And you don’t even have to order it from China or other “shady” place like that.

Don’t expect the tablet to come with mind-blowing capabilities. Obviously, you’re going to get what you pay for. Let’s see what that is exactly. The Apex AP-7S118 features a 7-inch LCD touchscreen with a resolution of 800 x 480 pixel resolution and runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Humorously enough, the processor powering the device isn't even mentioned in the spec sheet, so I’ll just move on. The slate also has 4GB of internal storage, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, a 0.3MP frontal webcam and a battery capable of providing an above average 4 hours of life juice.

The device could serve a number of purposes; for example, it can become a decent kiddie slate, in case you don’t want to go all out and spend a lot of money on something that could be easily damaged by your child.
