Charlie Hunnam dropped out of the highly anticipated movie “Fifty Shades of Grey” weeks after announcing he’d be in it and promoting it in the media. A new report offers a possible explanation for his seemingly odd decision to back out.

He didn’t want to be typecast, an insider reveals for People magazine.

Hunnam has already gotten praise for his performances in “Green Street Hooligans,” “Pacific Rim,” and “Sons of Anarchy” and, if we’re to believe the insider, he didn’t know what to expect when he agreed to play Christian Grey in the aforementioned flick.

He accepted the offer because he thought the role would be a challenge, but he didn’t think it farther than that.

“He dropped out of the project because he didn’t want to be typecast. He didn’t want the Robert Pattinson-esque attention that would come along with taking on this role,” says an insider.

That would be easy to believe because no one can possibly imagine the kind of frenzy that comes with being a part of one such project until it happens to them. Then again, Charlie’s been around for some time: he must have had some kind of idea of what he was getting himself into before he accepted the part.

If so, that only leaves the other theory now making the rounds: he never planned to do the role, he just said yes knowing he’d drop out to get free publicity.
