14 DAY TRIAL // Chakra Linux, a distribution especially built to take advantage of KDE Software Compilation and the Plasma desktop, is now at version 2014.02.
Chakra Linux 2014.02, dubbed “Curie,” follows the development of the KDE SC 4.12 series and a trend started by developers a while ago. They will be naming their releases after famous engineers or scientists.
“The Chakra Project team is delighted to announce the first release of Chakra Curie. ‘Curie’ is the name of a series of Chakra releases that follows the KDE Software Compilation 4.12 series.”
“Please have in mind that our installer, Tribe, does not currently officially support UEFI, RAID, LVM and GPT, although you might find some workarounds in our forums. In addition, the partitioning page will show empty when installing on virtual drives without any pre-made partitions,” reads the installer.
Highlights of Chakra Linux 2014.02:
• Chakra provides the first in a series of monthly stabilization updates to the 4.12 series, including 4.12.1; • kde-workspace has been patched to display the width or height (depending on orientation) of Plasma panels when resizing them; • kde-connect, which aims at making your computer aware and seamlessly integrated with all your devices, has been added; • Login and logout sounds have been added to the distribution; • Nvidia 331.20, Catalyst 13.12, xf86-video-nouveau 1.0.10, xf86-video-ati 7.2.0, mesa 10.0.1, and xf86-video-intel 2.21.15 drivers have been added; • The catalyst-legacy package has been dropped from the repositories because it doesn't support the new X server, and it is not available on the ISO anymore; • Linux kernel has been updated to version 3.12.6; • memtest 5.01, with optional multithreading support which makes memory checks much faster, has been added; • KMPlayer 0.11.3.1, SMPlayer 0.8.6, Plasma Media Center 1.2.0, and VLC 2.1.2 have been added.
